(Confession,LinkedIn and Facebook saw this first).
The first time I’ll cast News, it wasn’t planned.
I was still more like an intern.
The Caster on duty wasn’t available, the major news bulletin couldn’t fail, I was the only option and instead of it to fail I was told to go cast it.
Of course I had been doing some behind the scene prepping but I wasn’t ready for it.
There was no time to think, my hands were shaky and sweaty and so was my voice.
(So many things running through my mind at the same time, and I have been hosting programs before then but news was just different.)
I sha read it because there was no plenty time and I read rubbish, like I am aware of what I read.
I knew I made few blunders but my colleagues were so encouraging and didn’t make me feel bad. Very professional and kind men.
“Aisha you read it so well”, “In fact the errors you made weren’t noticeable” (all na to make me feel good because I was still shaky minutes after the news.)
I felt fulfilled, I could add “caster” to my resume abi cv... A dream come true, it was a major win for me last year because I achieved a set goal.
I am very grateful to my colleagues who I worked with in the newsroom at Diamond FM, they showed me so much love and were the hype men! I don’t think I can forget them in my career journey.
Saying this now doesn’t mean I don’t make mistakes at intervals but the confidence level can’t be compared to now and the amount of improvement is all thanks to conscious practice and being hard on myself atimes.(lol)
Do you have a first time story?
If you’re a student, what’s one first time story you want to share if you don’t have the work experience yet? Maybe a time you had to represent your group, speak in front of the class and the likes.
Share with us.
Bonus advice: please endeavor to intern/volunteer while still in school, that was when I had my first ever radio job experience, was like a disaster too but look at me now.
The Truth from this:Without a first time we can’t get known for something or even get better at it.
Take the step, share it to the world, no matter how your story is, it will surely inspire someone out there.
Cruise from this: it is easier said than done o, but I enjoy the adrenaline and high tension it always comes with, hehehehe.
Cheers to many more beautiful Adrenaline pumping First Time’s to come.
I’ll share that of my first time on TV too, maybe not in the next newsletter but I will.
(Want to say something, but shalaye might be much, see you in my next newsletter).
Always,
Yours in Cruise and Truth,
Nahnah.
